The mattresses and the freezer could not travel mixed in with everything else. Mattresses are kept out of the compacted load and sent to be pulled apart for the springs and the foam; a chest freezer counts as hazardous waste and has to go to a site set up to take the gas out of it before the shell is broken up. Neither is a problem, but both have to be said out loud on the walk-round rather than discovered at the tip.
Because the owner was not there, the team photographed the property on the walk-round and again once it stood empty. Sixteen pictures went off with the paperwork the same afternoon, taken in the last hour of the job. When you are that far from a house you are clearing, photographs are the only proof you have that anything happened at all. We send them whether they are asked for or not.
The ground we cover
Helensburgh sits at the mouth of the Gare Loch on the north shore of the Firth of Clyde, in Argyll and Bute. It's the anchor for everything we do in this direction.
