Nobody in these towns says "Greater Manchester" about where they live. They say Bolton, or Oldham, or Stockport, or Sale. The county is an administrative wrapper around a dozen towns that were separate places long before 1974 and still behave like it.
31 clearances have landed in these postcodes. M27 at Pendlebury comes up most, then BL9 in Bury, M20 in Didsbury, WA14 at Altrincham, M24 at Middleton and SK8 at Cheadle.
Terraces, entries and back alleys
The stock here is heavily terraced, and terraces mean access. A lot of these streets were built with a back entry rather than a driveway, and whether the entry is passable decides how the day runs — whether the crew carry twenty yards to the van or two.
Volume is often in the yard and the cellar rather than upstairs. A great many of these houses have cellars, and a cellar that has been filled for decades is a slower job than the whole of the ground floor.
Altrincham, Sale, Didsbury and Cheadle are a different stock again — larger, more probate work, more instructions coming from solicitors and executors who live elsewhere.
