What actually came out
Storage room A had the wheelchair, the vacuum and a run of household tools. Storage room B was miscellaneous household items, which in practice means the mixed cupboard-load everybody has. The outhouse held garden tools. Both bedrooms went out whole: two beds with their mattresses, two wardrobes. A scatter of small furniture, plus every stitch of clothing. Out of the living room came the settee, two armchairs, a chest of drawers, and a table with its chairs. The kitchen gave up the cooker, a small fridge, and all the cutlery and plates. No items were to be left, and none were.
The mattresses were the only things that needed handling on their own. Anything with foam and fabric in it is treated as a separate waste stream under the persistent-organic-pollutant rules. Sofas, armchairs and padded dining chairs travel and get processed apart from the general load. The fridge went the same way for its own reason: gas has to be drawn off under regulation before the shell can be broken down. Getting to you
Heywood lost its passenger services in 1970, so the station on Green Lane is now the East Lancashire Railway's. Steam and heritage diesels running west to Bury Bolton Street rather than anything you would commute on. For actual services, Castleton is the nearest National Rail station, about a mile and a half out on the Manchester–Rochdale line. Rochdale itself the next stop up and Mills Hill covering the Middleton side. Metrolink trams run from Rochdale town centre and from Bury. Handy to know if you are travelling in to meet us at a property and leaving the car at home.
