Most weeks there is a van of ours somewhere in WA14 or WA15, and most of what it is there for is house clearance. Where the vans go
Altrincham sits at the bottom corner of Trafford, in Greater Manchester, and the postcodes run WA14 through the town centre, Broadheath, Oldfield Brow and Bowdon, then WA15 out through Hale, Hale Barns, Timperley and Ringway. The WA prefix is the Warrington postal area rather than a Manchester one, which throws people who assume everything round here begins with an M. An executor in another county, a son or daughter abroad, a case manager in a legal office who is handling several estates at once. A relative, a neighbour or an agent meets the team to open up, and everything else goes by phone and email. Paperwork can go to an executor or to a solicitor's office rather than to the empty house, and if probate is still working its way through we will wait — that is normal, not a complication.
Houses that have been lived in a long while and are packed to the ceiling don't put us off either. We've emptied places where every room was full and the hallway was single-file, and the team gets on with it and passes no comment.
