We do house clearance across Greenwich and the run of south-east London postcodes that sit around it, and most weeks the job is the same shape. An empty family home that has to be handed back to a solicitor or an estate agent by a set date, and someone a long way off trying to arrange it by email. One Greenwich house clearance we did in Kidbrooke, SE3, in November 2022 was about as clean a run as they come. The person winding up the estate was an accountant, and she had gone through the place herself first. Afterwards she wrote: "Yes, just the items in the house - we will have cleared the shed and greenhouse and loft so it'll be nice and easy for the team!"
She was right. It was a three-bed, and the instruction was plain — the team went into the house and nowhere else. No loft, no shed, no garage. Just bags, boxes, wardrobes and the heavy furniture down the stairs and out. When the owner has already sorted the outbuildings, a clearance like that is done inside the day and the property is swept through and left ready for the agent. We took a set of completion photos on the walk-round at the end, which is what most executors want when they aren't there to see it themselves.
Not every Greenwich house clearance is that neat, mind. In December 2022 we cleared a six-bedroom house over in Chislehurst, BR7, with a large basement and a garden shed, and that one ran across several days. The estimator set the property out over a block of December dates and we worked to that. The Greenwich postcodes we cover
Greenwich itself is SE10 — the town centre, Maze Hill, East Greenwich and out onto the Peninsula. From there the area we work spreads across a wide set of districts. For the record, we cleared a three-bed in Welling, DA16, in April 2025 as well — a vacant house, loft excluded, with a garden shed. The person handling it let the team in at nine and left them to it, which is how a lot of these go.
Garage and loft clearance in Greenwich comes up more often than most people expect, which is why we ask about it on the booking form in plain words. Is it a three-bed house including the loft, with garage and garden shed, or just the rooms? A loft stacked with boxes and a garage you can't get the door open on are half a day on their own, ladders and all. The crew that turns up needs to know that before it starts. Access and parking on Greenwich streets
A flat clearance in one of the riverside blocks is its own kind of day. A lift to book with the managing agent, a bin store that is not ours to use, and a loading bay somebody else wants. Down towards Woolwich and Plumstead the hills add a bit of graft. If it's a flat with stairs and no lift, we'd sooner know before the day than find out on it.
What we can't put in the ordinary load
A few things can't just go in with the general load. Fridges and freezers — and there were three across the Chislehurst and Kidbrooke jobs — hold regulated gases and are handled on their own. Upholstered sofas, armchairs and anything with foam padding fall under the POP rules that came in for treated furniture. That padded material is kept apart and sent down its own permitted route by law, not tipped in with the rest.
Tins of paint, solvents, gas canisters and similar hazardous odds and ends we're not able to carry in a standard clearance load, and we'll tell you what needs a specialist collection instead. Everything else is sorted at the yard. Whatever still has any use in it we try to route to a local charity or a reuse project rather than the tip. The remainder goes through a licensed transfer station with the paperwork kept for every load. We hold a waste carrier licence — CBDU419679 — and if a solicitor or executor needs a disposal receipt for the estate file, we provide it.
Probate and executors at a distance
A lot of our Greenwich house clearance work is probate, and it is usually run by someone who isn't local — an executor in another county, a family member abroad, an accountant or a solicitor handling the estate. That is fine; it's most of what we do. We can pick a key up from an agent or a neighbour, work to the solicitor's timetable, and email photos of the emptied property when it's done.
