Nottinghamshire is searched for by name more than any other county on this site — around 590 people a month look for house clearance here using the county rather than a town. That is unusual, and it probably says something about how people in the old coalfield think about where they live: Mansfield, Hucknall, Kirkby, Sutton and Worksop are all "Notts" before they are anything else.
What the housing gives you
The coalfield towns are dominated by interwar and postwar estate housing — consistent layouts, small gardens, loft hatches in the same place in every third house. That consistency makes quoting from photographs unusually reliable here.
Nottingham itself and West Bridgford are a different stock: Victorian terraces, student conversions, and more flats. Access and parking take more planning, and a shared entry can add an hour to the day.
Newark, Southwell and the villages north of the Trent run to larger properties and more probate work, often instructed by a solicitor with the family elsewhere.
