Four clearances have landed in Newham's own postcodes — E15 at Stratford and E16 in the Royal Docks.
The fastest-changing borough
Newham has more new housing than anywhere else in London and it sits next to some of the oldest. Stratford and the Royal Docks are towers and mid-rise blocks with concierges, booked lifts and loading bays that have to be reserved. East Ham and Forest Gate are Victorian terrace, much of it converted and much of it in multiple occupation.
The two need completely different planning. In a new block, the arrangement is made with the building before we set off. In a terrace it is about parking and the staircase.
What the work is
End-of-tenancy and landlord work in volume — the borough turns over faster than most — plus sales. Multi-occupancy properties mean more furniture per room than the floor plan suggests.
