When it was finally settled he put it better than we could: "In our respective roles, our companies are very much reliant on third parties to deliver our own promises." He hired a van and went back to finish the last of it himself rather than pass the row down the chain. We apologised, we sorted it out between us, and he told us plainly that there was no blame aimed at us in the slightest. A clearance is often not the end of it. We clean through after ourselves as a matter of course. Where an agent wants the place ready for photographs we will put a cleaning team in behind the clearance team and do it in the one visit. Gardens are the same: a lawn that has not been cut for a season, a shed full of half-empty pots, a greenhouse with the glass gone.
