That flat is a fair sample of Malvern work. WR14 has a lot of it — Victorian villas built for the water cure, chopped into two, three, four flats over the last century, with staircases that were never designed for a wardrobe to come down them. Add the hill. Half the roads in Great Malvern and West Malvern run across a slope, so a Luton either parks nose-in on a drive or sits on the road with the handbrake on and a man watching it. Malvern proper is WR14 — Great Malvern, Malvern Link, Barnards Green, Pickersleigh. WR13 takes in Malvern Wells, Welland and Colwall over the Herefordshire side of the ridge, and WR8 covers Upton upon Severn and the villages along that stretch of river. On the Worcester side we work WR2, WR5 and WR6, out through St John's and Martley. West is HR8 and Ledbury. South is GL18, GL19 and GL20 — Newent, Tewkesbury and the Severn plain. North is DY12, DY13 and DY14: Bewdley, Stourport-on-Severn and Cleobury Mortimer. WR15 is Tenbury Wells, a long thin run up the Teme valley, but we go. Malvern Hills District Council covers Malvern itself and the ground west and south of it, with Worcester City and Wychavon taking the rest. The flame retardants used in upholstery — and since 2023 anything padded and covered has to be kept apart from the general load and burned in a permitted incinerator rather than tipped or shredded. Sofas, armchairs, padded dining chairs, footstools, futons, beanbags and seat cushions. Plain wooden chairs are exempt and go in the ordinary load, so it is always worth asking.

Furniture and household goods that somebody else can still use get offered to charity shops and reuse schemes in the area before anything else happens to them.
