Most of our house clearance work in Thames Ditton is arranged by somebody who is not standing in the house. September 2021 is a fair example. A property in KT7, cleared for an owner who had been living down near Sandown on the Isle of Wight long enough that coming back over the Solent to empty it himself was never going to happen. A smaller job at another KT7 address
Not everything is a full house. The other job worth telling from KT7 was a single collection rather than a whole house clearance — one crew, one van, one load away, booked by somebody living over in Guildford who never came out to meet us. Thames Ditton has its own station on the little Hampton Court branch, one stop off the main line, and that branch is the reason for a good few of the terraces and the 1930s semis between the High Street and Giggs Hill Green. Two things we handle differently. Sofas, armchairs and other upholstered seating fall under the persistent organic pollutants rules, which means they cannot be mixed with general waste and have to go for incineration through a permitted route. Mattresses go to a dedicated mattress recycler for a different reason again — they jam the machinery at a general facility. And there are things we simply cannot put in the van: paint tins, solvents, gas cylinders, asbestos sheeting, car batteries. Surrey County Council's recycling centre — the nearest one to Elmbridge is at Charlton Lane, Shepperton — takes paint and car batteries; gas cylinders go back to the supplier and asbestos needs a licensed route.
