25 clearances have landed in East Sussex postcodes. Brighton and Hove at one end, Hastings and Bexhill at the other, and between them a county of hills, narrow lanes and housing that was mostly built before anyone owned a car.
Terraces, hills and no parking
Brighton is the hardest place in the county to clear a house in, and everyone who has tried knows why: terraces with no front garden, controlled parking on both sides, and streets at an angle that makes a loaded sack barrow a two-man job. Half the planning is deciding where the van legally stands.
Hastings, St Leonards and Bexhill are cheaper, older and fuller — a great deal of Victorian stock converted into flats, plus long-settled households where forty years have gone into the loft.
Lewes, Uckfield, Heathfield and the villages inland are easier for access and heavier on outbuildings.
