The East Riding runs from the Humber up to Bridlington and inland across the Wolds. Older people here still say Humberside for the area around the estuary — a county that existed from 1974 to 1996 and never quite left the language.
Coast, Wolds and the estuary
Bridlington, Hornsea and Withernsea are seaside towns with retirement and holiday stock: bungalows, converted guesthouses, flats above shops, long occupancies and lofts to match.
The Wolds villages are chalk and brick with outbuildings and long lanes.
Beverley and Driffield are market towns, straightforward to work in. The Hull edge and the Humber bank are denser terraced housing.
Coastal erosion is a real feature of this coast, and we have been called to properties being cleared ahead of it — that is a different kind of deadline from a completion date and it does not move.
What happens to the contents
Loads go through permitted transfer stations on the Humber bank, including Ellgia at Winterton, DN15 0DH, and Southbank Recycling on Normanby Road, DN15 9YJ.
Household recycling centres take residents' own waste and refuse trade loads. Our waste carrier registration is CBDU419679 and paperwork comes back from every load.
