"Let me know what works for you guys and I will accommodate," he wrote, and that kind of flexibility is worth a great deal when a job might run into a second morning.

Brechin's own postcodes sit in DD9, and the branch we work runs out from there across the DD area. Montrose in DD10 over the far side of the Basin, Forfar and Kirriemuir in DD8, Arbroath in DD11, Carnoustie down the coast in DD7. With Edzell, Hillside, Friockheim, Letham and St Cyrus on the runs between them. Angus Council is the authority for all of it. We take work in the town itself, up the South Esk towards Careston and Tannadice. North to Edzell, out to the Trinity and Menmuir side, and down the A90 corridor as far as we are wanted.

There is no mainline platform in Brechin any more. The nearest one you can catch a train from is Montrose, eight miles or so east on the Aberdeen to Dundee line, and Laurencekirk is not much further north.
